BCC PICTORIAL DIRECTORY IS ON THE WAY!
Our new pictorial directory just won’t be complete without you! Anyone who considers themselves a part of our church family is welcome and encouraged to participate -- official church membership is not a requirement.
The Membership Board is coordinating this project and would really welcome YOUR help! Anyone who is interested in, or curious about, the directory process is encouraged to join us at our next meeting on Monday, July 12th at 7:00p.m., when Bob Winckler of Lifetouch will be getting us started on our pictorial journey.
Also, please remember to: SAVE THE DATES NOW!
Photography will be taking place at the church on the following dates:

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Our prayer shawl ministry is underway! Several beautiful pieces have been blessed and given to those who could use some comfort. The group has decided to meet at least the second and fourth Thursday of the month, 9 a.m. in the library. Many of the shawls are worked on at home as well, so if you cannot make those dates to work together, you are still welcome to make a shawl. A few Sunday-after-worship dates will be added later. This is a great way to stay connected with folks who cannot regularly attend a church service. Contacts: Betsy Thatcher, Susan Kurtz, or Marilyn Cummins.
THANK YOU!
A huge “thank you” from the Rummage Sale Team for another successful BCC annual rummage sale. This would not happen without your generous donation of your time and expertise.
It is definitely an all-church team effort to have this rummage sale. Thank you for donating items for sale, helping to set-up the rooms for the sale, helping to sort and price items all before the sale began. During the two day sale, thank you for being cashiers, general “runners”, being in charge of a room, buying items, counting & taking our receipts to the bank, and most of all showing our visitors the wonderful fellowship of BCC.
BCC SOFTBALL SEASON!
The BCC/Trinity Co-ed Softball Team is seeking new players! If you are age 14 or older and enjoy playing softball, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Narthex or contact Bonnie Ilhardt. Games are played on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings with the season beginning in late May and concluding in early August. Hope to see some new faces this year!
HOSPITALITY REQUEST
Do you enjoy the coffee and refreshments after the worship service? Who doesn’t? Do you like to welcome members and guests on Sunday? We hope so.
We would like to establish a list of folks who might help out with the duties. When a list is completed, you will be contacted with the available dates. A sort of “round robin” effect! That way we will have the names for the whole month and fellowship won’t be interrupted and everyone will feel welcomed. Please contact your fellowship members: Debbie Earnest, Jenny Grewal, Mary Lou Mattner, or Mary Richter if interested. Thank you.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST Palm Sunday at BCC was active and joyful! The worship service was “kicked off” with a spectacular pancake breakfast. The newly renovated Narthex was beautifully adorned with tablescapes of daffodils, bunnies, and chocolate eggs. About 100 hungry folks enjoyed pancakes, sausage, applesauce, strawberries, and refreshments. The exuberant mood continued into the Sanctuary with the children and choir waving their palms. Besides all the great fellowship, we collected $468 in a “free will” offering to help pay for the new sound system. The event was coordinated by Marilyn Cummins, Mary Lou Mattner, and Linda Stowell. A big thank you to the Lent Event kids and their leaders for helping to set up on Saturday and to the members of the congregation who took down tables and helped clean up the Narthex in time for worship. What a great team we have at BCC!
DEAD SEA SCROLLS COME TO LIFE!
During the Dead Sea Scrolls Week-end of March 20th & 21st over 50 people participated in the lectures and/or in visiting the exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
Rev. Bill Frank on Saturday presented the history of the Jewish People leading up to the period of the Dead Sea Scrolls – if we ever get discouraged, it is a lesson in perseverance. He then followed the history of the written Bible to current times – some of us dated ourselves as we identified which version of the Bible we had as kids. He did what Bill always did well, which was to present in an open and unbiased manner the important information for us to consider.
The next adventure was the trip to the Museum…..In typical BCC fashion we all managed to rearrange carpools, not get terribly lost, find the food at the cafeteria and get to the exhibit at the precise time. Being obedient folks we read all the information posted, were appropriately impressed and wished we had hurried at the beginning as we realized our time was short just as we got to the Scrolls themselves.
Some of us proceeded to the Planetarium for a brief glimpse of the Milwaukee Sky, the Sky over Israel and the topography of this “Promised Land”. The “Promised Land” was a real estate scam – lots of sand and no water.
Sunday, Rabbi Steve Adams brought the Jewish insight to the Scrolls and their history from being recovered. He reminded us they call the “Old” Testament the Jewish Bible and the early discoverers were in it for the money with little appreciation for the value of what they had come upon. The Rev. Bill Frank rejoined us and enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. He and the Rabbi made a good team.
I know I speak for those of us who participated. It was a valuable time. Thanks to everyone who took the time to make this experience wonderful.
Kate Bloomberg,
3RD ANNUAL WINE TASTING FUNDRAISING EVENT On Sunday, October 18th, members and friends of BCC attended the Third Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser at the home of Linda and Jim Stowell. We sampled a number of unmarked bottles of red and white wine, tasted light hors d’oeuvres in between, and enjoyed the fellowship and company of each other. We all voted for our favorite wine and each of us was able to tell a brief story about the wine we brought. Additional funds were raised through a silent auction for a beautiful wine gift basket and the purchase of bottles of wine donated by church members. Linda Stowell provided a delicious dinner for all of us to round out the evening and there was talk of a new and exciting wine tasting event next year. If you were not able to attend this year you will not want to miss this event next year. Watch for pictures to be posted in the Narthex of this year’s event.

ADULT STUDY GROUP Join us Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for a time of study and fellowship. The ongoing topic will be a study called “Bringing Faith Home,” which will explore different aspects of how faith affects our daily lives. We’ll look at what the Bible has to say about our lives and our faith, and we’ll take a look at how this all affects us. You are welcome to come and join us at any time -- it is not a consecutive weekly study. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Connie.
CALLING ALL MEN! JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST!
The Men’s Breakfast gathers at Maxim's Restaurant on 180th and Capitol Drive in Brookfield at 8:00a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, much to the pleasure of those who come.
The gathering is hereby called Men’s Fellowship Breakfast because that’s the real purpose, just good fellowship. No duties, no responsibilities, just friendly conversation about any particular subject.
Don’t worry about there not being room for you. We usually have eight to twelve who come and Maxim’s holds up to 300. They offer a grand variety of breakfasts and most are around five dollars. (Buy nine and the tenth one is free.) If you ever forget what you usually like to order, amazing Kathy, our regular waitress will be happy to remind you. She has our orders completely memorized but is open to changes.
Join us on the first Tuesday of every month -- we would welcome the opportunity to get to know you better.
2009 RUMMAGE SALE SUMMARY
The Rummage Sale Steering Team thanks all who worked to make the 2009 Rummage Sale a success! Having a bright yellow sign accented with multi-colored flagging helped our regular customers and also new shoppers find us.
Through all of our efforts over $5400 ($5454.72) was raised. The net to the Missions Board will approach $4900 after expenses including advertisements, signing, and the set-up lunch. In addition to the funds raised, our donations supported the following charitable organizations:
· Guest House, a shelter for homeless men in Milwaukee · Hope Network for Single Mothers in Menomonee Falls · Waukesha Women’s Center · Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County · Friends of Brookfield Library · Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee
Thanks to the Fellowship Board for serving lunch on set-up Sunday. Lunch was welcome as was the opportunity to rest and enjoy the fellowship of others. Thanks to all who shared food during the week and especially to Lorna and Jim Garvens for providing sloppy joes. Rummage Sale week would not be complete without eating sloppy joes on sale days!
The Steering Team truly appreciates everyone’s hard work, laughter, spirit, and your fellowship! We look forward to your help in 2010!

HOSTING A COFFEE HOUR IS EASY!
Have you considered signing up to serve as a hospitality host following worship but are uncertain on what’s needed?
Fellowship Board members plan to sponsor several walk-through tours in the coming weeks. You will be able to see the newly organized “Coffee Hour Cupboard” which contains all the needed supplies; the guide sheet to help you identify suggested snacks and amounts to bring; plus the opportunity to perhaps sign up with someone who is experienced and has prior experience hosting a coffee hour.
Hosting a coffee hour is a great way to greet old friends and meet new ones. We hope to see you on a tour soon!
COMMUNION FOR SHUT-IN MEMBERS
The Worship Board would like to offer Communion on a monthly basis to our members who are unable to attend Church services.
We are looking for members that would like to be part of this group. Two members would go to their residences the first Sunday of each month, have a little talk time, and serve the bread and juice. One member would need to be a present or past member of the Worship Board. We will have a printed order of service to be read.
I would like to ask anyone interested to please contact me and offer their time for this purpose. Pastor Connie had a training session in April and would do another session if needed. We are now prepared to offer Communion to those interested. Thank you for volunteering for this worthwhile service.
